The Citizens claimed a 2-1 win to lift the trophy last season and go into this match widely expected to prevail once again. The comfortably defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in the quarter-finals before having to work harder for a 1-0 win over Chelsea here in the last four. United's last two matches in the competition were full of drama - they prevailed 4-3 over Liverpool after extra time, before eventually defeating Coventry City on penalties after the Championship outfit had fought back from 3-0 down.
